Ah the memories, back in some south american airfarce hangar we used to send the smallest kid (you figure out the elimination process) to ignite the kerosene heater filled with jet fuel. It would immediatelly shake off the dust off the rafters of the circa 1915 hangar upon ignition! with jet fuel the heater did burn cleaner and smell better. Now, there was a saying down there, "like feeding flowers to a pig" it it an exercise in futility, it does not make a diference. Match the octane to the compression ratio. In my rather stock a14, 87 octane is plenty. If I know I have to go out there to prove something, I go up to 90, but is only for my benefit, the bike does not really care. Devon's suggestion is bang-on (or ping-off if you prefer) Stay low, and get more miles per U$ Cheers Eduardo.

My XT500 has a 90mm(535cc) 10.5-1 Arias piston and runs fine on pump premium(92-93 octane). Adding octane booster just made it run crappy and the plug black. Eric in Pa

Ya, reminds me of the good old days when I fed my KZ650 100LL avgas. Loved the smell of the fuel & exhaust and the ice blue color of the fuel. I used to heat my house with Jet A too. Mark

Well.. I might have to argue that one. I only ever put super in my bike 93 octane, until recently I was at our BP (ok renamed Amoco) and since I always had good results with BP fuel in the past when I lived in the south, I tried regular fuel 89 octane I think, I honestly can feel the bike run better. Now if you are getting knock, sure move the octane up, but if not, why bother. Dooden A15 Green Ape
