brave new world / must have mods

Post by south_fl_klr » Tue Jul 15, 2003 8:18 am

Hello All, I am new to the following: - This List - Motorcycling - The World of the KLR 650 I decided to trade my 4 wheeled vehicle for a 2 wheeled one. After some research and investigation I decided that, for the money, the KLR 650 would be the bike for me. I am slightly daunted by my new found ownership only because it seems so many people are doing so much (mechanically speeking) themselves. So, I am trying to learn as much as I can about the bike and all of its quirks. Let me throw out some of my immediate issues: (i) I have read at http://www.advrider.com/Bikes/Bikes.html> the following: "Everything vibrates off without Locktite." Should I be applying locktite to everything, or are there only some specific things that require this. (ii) It seems like there is alot out there about doohickeys and blown balancers, this has worried me slightly. Is there a list on the web, or print, that suggests some modifications that are a must for a new KLR, in order to prvent future pains? For example, should I do something about my doohickey now before there are any serious problems (my bike has 62 miles on it, I just picked it up last week). Thank yor for your help, I am looking forward to reading this list. Best Regards, Blair Watkins South Florida, USA

Coming home from the flats after having done a show at one of the clubs, I was driving on the highway that goes out of town along the lake, in the area of the ferry and hall of fame. I got passed by a pack of at least a dozen sport bikes white-lining it between traffic at easily over a hundred. I was thinking "man, those guys, one wrong move and they are going down hard.". About five miles down...a whole mess of plastic splinters all over the lanes. I couldn't see the driver at all due to traffic, but I'm sure it wasn't pretty. Most of the group were wearing shorts and t-shirts and were also two up riding. The flats is out of control on the weekends in the summer, crazy party.
