  Thanks Fred,

Sounds like the jr is the ticket, as the maintaining part's the most
important for me. All best. -Scott

Wow! Thanks for the detailed info, Jett. I'm convinced that this..our KLR650
list, is the best on the planet.

I'm going to give the jr a shot, as my priority is maintaining a battery for
 a project bike...

Side note: Any of you folks making the trip down here for bike week? We're
definitely attending the 200, and likely the Supercross.
Mr. Walburn...I've not yet heard your reply! -Scott

<< In Nov. a friend and I bought 4 of the Battery Tender Plus units from
Motorcycle Access Warehouse, the price including shipping averaged out
to a little over $38 each. One of these failed within a couple of
weeks of hooking it up. It was sent back under warranty, but it took
several phone calls and a lot of follow-up before I got a new
replacement unit. Took almost 5 weeks between my UPS shipping date
and when it landed back on my doorstep.
They now all seem to be working, we'll see how it goes in a couple of
months when we pop the batteries back into the bikes.

Arden,

I lived in S Cal for a number of years. I distinctly remember my last
winter there, I think it fell on a ...
 Tuesday!

Has anyone bought a Battery Tender Junior?
Seems to have most of the features of the larger "Plus" model, but doesn't
specifically state "designed to charge sealed batteries" as the Plus does.
There's just about a 20.00 price difference between the two.

Any thoughts on Yuasa's two models? >>

  Jon, thanks for the input.
I was looking for a consensus of the best battery maintainer out there.
The necessity here, is not finding the time to ride multiple bikes.
The need for a maintainer is for keeping the new battery for a "project bike"
 charged...for the record. uh huh
Safe to say that my bikes don't feel neglected...ask my wife.

Speakin o batteries..., I found an aftermarket equivalent for the stock
Yuasa, for the Yamaha XT225 Serow, from Bikemaster...for half the cost. Woo
hoo. Happy Serow Restorer I am, yup. -Scott

I picked up a nice 1 amp charger at walmart last month. It was the only one
they had. It is 12/6 volt, 1 amp, and has a connector I have hooked to the
battery, with a plug, so I don't have to remove the side panels or seat to
charge the battery. I just plug the charger into a plug under the left side
 panel, and it charges.
It also has the clamps to clamp onto the terminals. Works good with my lawn
 tractor too..
And it was only like $16...

I looked at one of those too. My concern was it's a manual charger and just
keeps charging at 1 amp unless unplugged. (at least the one I looked at)
I wanted an automatic charger that would step down to a maintenance charge.
Found a 1.5 amp automatic charger at Kragen for about $25.
 Worked good on my BMW.

Maybe a cheap charger is to use a timer on it. I have a cheapo 1 amp and all sort of extra light timers, how about setting it to run an hour per day? I don't bother since I ride about every day (-: __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I have a battery tender plus that I use on my airplane, but I will
use it on the KLR if it will be parked for a long time. One neat
thing about the Battery Tender Junior and Plus is that they come
with a battery harness with an SAE connector - you can put the
harness on and leave it on, so you just have to plug it in - takes
about 5 seconds. And as an added bonus, you can get a Gerbings
heated vest or jacket liner with the same connector. The connector
even has a cover to keep mud out. There might be other chargers
that use a similar harness / connector.

I rode for lots of years without a heated anything, and I just bougt
a Gerbings. I never thought I needed one, but man it sure is nice
to be able to crank up the heat. Must be getting old. If you live
in WA, you can go to the Gerbings factory and by "seconds" with
cosmetic blemishes, fully functional, full warranties, for about 20
percent off. If you don't like it, 30 day money back policy.

Not to me, I don't let my bike tip over that far. Mister_T Melbourne Australia> The bike was tipped past > horizontal, and when I righted it anti-freeze dripped out.
