Seems like there are a few of us from the Vietnam era,
Anyone out there? I was 4th Infantry, Central
Highlands.
Today I managed to not make it up a gravelly rutted
hill, tipped over, dragged it out of there and found
an alternate. Good to crash the KLR once in a while.
KLR's and fireworks, great day!

I didn't want to go to Nam, too tall for over there, I'd be the first one shot down (when the sergeant said "get down", I was worried that I'd stand up and start dancin..........)> Seems like there are a few of us from the Vietnam era, > Anyone out there?

John,
2/7th Cav, 1st Cav Div, I thought there might be a few of us on this list,
especially after I saw the ages of most of the people here. When we stood
down, I went to Ft Hood, Tx. and got to test DS bikes for Uncle Sam for 2
years, what a blast. We had an informal "crash & burn" club, if you didn't
crash at least once a week, you couldn't belong. I found if I didn't drop
the bike at least once a week, I tended to get a little cocky, ride way over
my head and really do some damage. Managed to break several bones on
different occasions during this part of my career. But the crashes kept me
just a little humble, for a while, anyway. Good to hear from a fellow vet.
Ride safe.

age & clutch switch bypass
My theory is that the plates of a wet clutch stick together after sitting
for a while. My method of beating the clunk is to start the bike, pull in
the clutch and snap the throttle once. The torque working on the weight of
the clutch and primary side of the transmission seems to break the clutch
plates loose, even after an extended stay in the garage.
By the way, I am 55 going on 30, riding since I was 13 and the KLR is the
best all around bike I have had.
