local dealer (long, sorry)
Ok, I try to be a nice guy but it doesn't pay. I WANT to do business with
the local Kawasaki dealer but check this:
I TRIED to buy my KLR at the dealer here in '99, but there were only a
handfull of bikes on the floor. Mostly those horrid 4 wheelers (do NOT get
me started!) and no one could tell me if one was ordered. So I had to go
back to my hometown and buy it.
I actually let the place here do my 500 Mile valve adjust (too scared to do
it myself AND wanted a dealer to do it for warrently reasons). I was told it
would be a day or two. A week later, no call so I drop by. My recently
detailed bike was sitting on a gravel parking lot with a bunch of crapped-out
4 wheelers in the rain! It stayed there another week before I finally asked
what the $#@%! was going on. I was told, "Well, we've only got one tech
right now and we're a little backed up." Finally got the bike back, it
backfired and was dirty as hell.
I TRIED to buy tires there. Talk about EXPENSIVE!!! AND couldn't tell me
WHEN I might expect to get them! When I declined on the generous offer to
pay double and wait indefinately, I told the guy that I KNEW how much the
tires cost. He gave me a "so what" shrug as I hit the door.
I TRIED to let them do the next valve check. When I asked how long it would
be, I was told a few days (same song). When I asked if that was a guarantee,
it wasn't. Got the same "We've only got one tech righ now...." So the
Mother Of Necessity came a' callin' and I learned to do it myself.
I TRIED to buy a bunch of replacement parts for routine stuff last week. The
parts guy wasn't sure a KLR was a motorcycle, and asked me, and I quote, "Is
that a Bayou?" Parts were not in stock, but could be ordered (at a premium).
So I called Fred and Bob's and got parts (Thanks!). In changing the fork
seals, I decided I needed some help, so I called the same shop.
I TRIED to pay the dealer to change the seals explaining the tubes were off
the bike, cleaned and drained. It would take 10 minutes...I just don't have
the tool. I was told, "We've only got one tech righ now so you'd have to
leave them. I couldn't tell you when he could get to it. May be a few days."
I'm on my way to the local independent who I buy most of my stuff from b/c he
says they can change the seals in a second.
