Gotta correct the misconceptions here. H-D suspensions are indeed made by
Showa, but at their plant in Sunbury, Ohio. Electric goodies are almost all
US made/owned except for batteries (Yuasa; in Kentucky, I think), and
starters (Nipponenso, also in KY if I'm not mistaken). Oh yes, carbs by
Keihin (almost exactly the same as on our beloved KLRs!), and from Japan.
Clutch plates from Fuji Clutch. I think that's about it. ALL the rest is
sourced from US companies or made in the plants at York, PA, or KC, MO. All
the sheet metal is stamped, welded, metal finished, and painted at York. All
the big twin frames are welded and painted there; Sportsters in KC. All the
engines and transmissions are made in Milwaukee. All the fairings,
windshields, and fiberglass bags are made in Tomahawk, WI. All the seats are
made in Milwaukee. All the engineering is done in Milwaukee. 100% American
made? Not quite, but closer than you think.

Tom (oughta know; I work there!)

my son used to work for a harley dealer. rode his zx-6 to work every
day. found rice on the tank a couple of times. but when he walked
back in the shop & told them that whoever put the rice on his tank
better be ready to race him or knock it off with the rice jokes, the
pranks stopped. i guess they didn't want to get embarrassed by a bike
less than half the size of theirs...

We don't make dual purpose bikes, so it all works out OK. However, some of my
co-workers don't care very much for my Yamaha Vision (on the rare occasions I
ride it to work!) Their problem, not mine! ; >Tom (oughta know; I work there!)
