My daily driver just developed a torque (?) problem - Sudden acceleration and
the car pulls to the right - and during deceleration while shifting it pulls
to the left.

This is most noticable during rapid acceleration or when decelerating (not
braking - just taking my foot of the accelerator) to shift during rapid
acceleration.

The problem is not related to shifting however - While driving in fourth gear
at a moderate speed the car will pull to the left when I take my foot of the
gas - then when I accelerate it pulls to the right.

This is not very noticable if I accelerate very slowly - except when I take
my foot off the gas to shift from third gear to fourth the car is going fast
enough to notice the pull to the left.

talking about your TC, your rear axle has come loose...tighten up those
bolt!!!

Jim,
Solutions are great; problrems are fun (as long as they're not mine, that
is)!! I think I'd suspect a problem with the rear axle location, such as a
broken top leaf on a rear spring, or a broken/loose axle mount, or a broken
shackle. Any of thes could cause the problem as you've described it.
(Please don't forget to share with us the CORRECT answer whem you find it!)

Jim,
Sounds to me like your rear axle location is being shifted from where it
ought to be by engine torque and engine braking being transmitted to the
wheels. I'd check axle attachment to springs, springs themselves, rubber
bushings, and spring shackles.
