Hello Group,
I am disassembling doors as part of total restoration.
Problem is that the door hinge strengtheners are still
tight to the trailing edge of door skin. Can't get
wood out, etc. Does anyone know how it was fitted and
attached to door skin. Trying not to distort door!
Thanks in advance.

As good as Mikes book is, you cannot assemble your doors per his diagram on pg 180; as stated: Step 3 is 'install hinge wood', step 4 is 'add metal bracket'.
The metal bracket is wrapped around the hinge wood, and cannot be installed after the hinge section. Rather, I would install the metal bracket first onto the hinge wood piece, and install this as an assembly. This allows the metal bracket lip to slip under the door skin lip. Otherwise, you would need to pry open the doorskin fold, then try to re-fold it.

Hello Don,
1704 has two different doors(!), but each strengthener is
fastened in the same way, i.e. crimped under the door skin at the
rear and tacked to the wood at the front. Try prying up the front
edge - gently!
