XPAG crankcase breather

I was just looking over the July 2004 issue of the Totally T-Type which I
had downloaded off the web and came across an article by Tony (sorry, no
last name listed) on installing a crankcase breather on his XPAG.
http://www.tregister.org/ttt.aspx
From the side plate breather he ran what looks like 5/8" hose to a flame
trap and then onto a 'B' series breather valve screwed into the intake
manifold balance tube. This creates a positive crankcase vent, with lower
atmospheric pressure in the crankcase thereby keeping in the oil better.
My questions are:
1) Has anyone else done this and solved oil leaks?
2) Can I just use a generic PVC valve and smaller tubing? Seems to me
American cars ran 1/4" or 3/8" tubing.
3) Is the flame trap necessary? I don't recall American cars having those
in the PVC system or maybe it was built into the PVC valve.
4) Would I have to enrich my carb mixture (turn adjustment down a couple
flats) change needles or anything else.
Thought I would give this a try but though I could learn from others before
starting. And the large tubing kind of junked things up so thought smaller
tubing would be less unsightly.
