Bonnet support

Friends,

I built a bonnet support for my 1947 MG TC.  The idea was not to change the original bonnet or firewall by drilling new holes, and if required can be easily transform back to the original stat. I sourced some parts that were used in aviation (fittings that supports execs panels..)  Under the aft AMAL latch I installed the hinge for the stay bar, under the front AMAL latch I installed the catch for the rod when stored. On the firewall under one of the bolts (on each side) I installed a fitting that holds the rod when he bonnet is raised.

I will add photos if one of you will kindly guide me how to uploads photos to the forum.

    I am not going to raise the bonnet during wind gusts . Even if the supports will keep the bonnet open.

    Hi Andy,

    Thank you for your kind words, our cars are 29 numbers apart (mine is TC2430 manufactured on 21 March 1947). Regarding the paint, it is a modern two pack with clear coat. The firewall color is according to Michael Sherrell recommendations BS381C – 627   Engine color  BS381C Dark sea grey, See pages 61 to 63 on his first book TCs Forever.

    I sourced those rod ends many years ago. They can be found on old aircrafts. Those parts support cowlings or Access panels when opened  for inspection .

    I am sorry but I do not know the part number for those parts. Maybe a search on Google will reveal some parts..

    To all of you who asked about the end fitting for the support bonnet bar I found for you a site that offers similar parts. They will need some machining

    and adding a lock for the spherical bolt.

    I built a bonnet support for my 1947 MG TC.  The idea was not to change the original bonnet or firewall by drilling new holes, and if required can be easily transform back to the original stat. I sourced some parts that were used in aviation (fittings that supports execs panels..)  Under the aft AMAL latch I installed the hinge for the stay bar, under the front AMAL latch I installed the catch for the rod when stored. On the firewall under one of the bolts (on each side) I installed a fitting that holds the rod when he bonnet is raised.

    I will add photos if one of you will kindly guide me how to uploads photos to the forum.
