Hi Tom and list, Further investigation revealed that it was assembly error that caused the trunnions to let loose.. The caps were threaded on incorrectly as they hit the spacers prematurely, resulting in only one thread turned on the caps. The action of the trailer just caused the inevitable to happen in a controlled manner as one thread will not hold very long. New parts are on the way from Mike at Sports and Vintage.
