Dear Friends,

In a recent thread on what MG stands for, one early source referred to the MG factory as "The Pavlova Works".

Does anyone know why the source of our cars was named after:

a) a dessert

b) a ballerina

c) all of the above

Also, has anyone else found a rolled up slip of paper in the springs of the seat back with the name of the upholsteror ?

Michael and all, The Pavlova factory had been a leather works co. in the past and was purchased by Morris for the new MG factory at abingdon in the early 1930's. There is more info. about this in MG history books and the film " Inside The Octagon " for example. Cheers, John TB#0398

A big grease penciled "OK" in both door skins is the best I can do. Except the Fiat I was stripping out to race 20 years ago had a girls name written in Arabic inside the rear panel.... Some poor displaced fellow in Turin dreaming of home? Regards Mark TC8126

Michael, On the plywood of the rear squab in my TC the upholsterer figured wages in pencil... Pounds, Shillings and Pence. Bill Traill DCO: TC#5221

On the plywood seat back of my TC was scrawled... "For a good time, call Bubbles at_______________" Unfortunately, the numbers were smudged and I couldn't make them out but if "Bubbles" is still out there someplace, I might be interested. Badgey
