Torrington Bearings and shims, ad nauseum

Hi guys, A note on front axle rebuilding with the Torrington bearing instead of the bronze washer. I solved the shimming problems on the Torrington conversion....by using MG parts! I set the roller bearing clearance at almost zero (a good thing), by using the shims that are used in the MG-B to adjust wheel bearing clearance. They are exactly the correct size O.D. and I.D., and come in the following thickness': (inches) .003, .005, .010, and for those with REALLY a large gap, .030 The Torringtons go on the bottom where the bronze went, and the spacers on the top of the axle on the non-thrust side....voila! I also found in my stores of new parts from the fleet, an unidentified thin rubber seal that will slip over the bearing/thrust washer stack and keep most or all of the grit out. It looks like a (ARGGG) "Triumph" part from a suspension joint, but I am unsure. Sometimes, the "packrat syndrome" is a good thing!
