I am in the process of restoring our TC exu and in a month or so she should be ready for painting.I intend to spray the old girl myself in cellulose. There is evidence that she was originally red and I would appreciate it if anybody could advise me of the correct shade or for example a reference number.I have been given an ICI no.from the octagon cc but I am not too sure of this. George

hi George - first of all make sure you have not rubbed down to the red-lead primer that all our cars had: I think there are too many red ones around because of this! no doubt Mike Card will reply to you on the subject of paint colours but colour refences need continually updating due to the confusing number paint systems on the market. how long before the only type we will be allowed to buy is water based? ocTagonally Roger

George, I am sure you will get lots of replies on this one. MG gave this colour various names over the years. My TB should be Coral Red. This is the same colour (probably) as Reno Red or Regency Red (TC). The ICI colour is RD 14 (this would be cellulose I think). I had a can of this reference made up and it is proving a very good match when I use it for touching up. The Sikkens colour I was given by Naylors is 40764 and this would be a two-pack paint. Since I am not an expert I await the combined knowledge of the T-ABCs! Mike Marjot TB 0450

If you want a nice red, try 1967 Ford "Candy apple red". You will be happy with that. Larry Long
