"Smilies" to you on both notes. Further, I will say that I suspect the
frame, wood and fenders were all replacements. Thus, there was sadly
little left in that car that was touched by the hands in Morris' Garage!
But, perhaps that is the reality of most of the TCs still out there.

Re: TC at Christie's Auction
Jay, just thought I would throw my 2 cents regarding Reid Miles TC. Not only
was the bonnet hand made of aluminum but also the side panels and the front
apron between the fenders. This was only because Reid liked the looks of the
polished aluminum. Reid Miles was a true Hollywood eccentric. Very famous as
a photographer and graphic designer, he made a whole series of album covers
for the Blue Note Jazz label. I remember following Reid in the TC during one
of our TC Motoring Guild conclaves and helping to fix the TC when it
developed fuel pump maladies. I Still have in my collection a signed
agreement written by Reid agreeing to host our annual holiday pary at his
place. At the time we could not find any paper so it was written on toilet
paper. Alas, with Reids passing we had to hold the party elsewhere. I also
remember being at an event with Reid and asking him where I could purchase a
copy of his famous TC poster. Reid promptly went to the back of the TC and
pulled one out and sold it to me on the spot. Those were the days!
Jay, say hello to your dad for me. Ron Simon

Re: TC at Christie's Auction
I've never seen a photo of the Reid Miles TC, nor did know of him till today.
It is obvious that those lucky enough to have shared time with this fellow
lost a fine friend. I do hope the car found a proper home and caretaker. Bob

Jay,

Wow! You're still coveting red wire wheels - by now, that must be 6-8
 years of unrequited love!

I met the car and Reid Miles at an MG Marque Day at Moss Motors in about
1990. At that time he told me he had been offered $35,000 for the car.
I was surprised and asked why he turned it down. He replied
indignantly, "I lost my virginity in this car - it's not for sale!"

I was skeptical and replied, "No, not in a TC." He said, "Oh yes, you
can do it! Then, waving his arms as if tossing things from a box, he
explained, "You remove the top, the side curtains, the seat back, the
passenger floor board...you can do it!"

I still wasn't convinced he was serious, but I was laughing too much to
object again. It's interesting to learn that the car has since sold for
$10,000 less. I guess it doesn't pay to get TOO attached to these cars!

 Skip et al,

I too have Reid's poster on my office wall and often refer others to it as
"this is what my car will look like when it's finished - only red". Reid was
in fact a very interesting person. I had an opportunity to judge one of his
other getaway cars at a show in San Diego - if memory serves correctly it was
a yellow and black Lincoln from the thirties. Anyway, I guess it's good to
know that the poster TC is still alive and well.

Is there any chance a picture could be posted on the T-ABC website to show this special TC? I'd love to see what it looked like.

As an Australian author so aptly stated -
"Polish it 'til it gleams, drive it 'til it smokes!"

That's what a TC is for.

So, at this point, with the TR4 running gear, and the possibly new frame,
fenders and body, and now the bonnet, side panels and apron, I'm not quite
sure what if anything of that car is original. That said, I still love it.

Re: TC at Christie's Auction
The posters show up on Ebay from time to time. That's how I got mine a few
 months ago.
