Altette Horn
Altette Horn Another reference is a reproduction of the Lucas Instructions for Fitting and Maintenance of "Altette" Horns models HF 1234 and HF 1235.
Dick Knudsen put it on page 9 of the May/June 1984 T.S.O. (probably yet one more item from his personal collection of M.G. literature).
Of course, T.S.O. also has its index, but I'm not sure if it has been updated. I am ploughing through all my copies and putting anything technical or historical on a database. I have already done everything put out by the M.G.C.C. T-Register in our own Bulletins & Newsletters (inc. Safety Fast!) and also TCs Forever.
I believe the O.C.C. index has been taken over by Lyn Harcombe, but have not spoken to him for a while. I would be only too pleased to "do" the Bulletin, but do not have the first 173 issues!

Does anyone know where the model number is located on a prewar altette horn, or how you can determine the model number by looks, I know the TC has a different nut in the center. Cheers Dean

Lawrie Rhodes advertises in the TSO and can hook you up among others. The last Moss repro. I saw is really the pre war type but the center nut was not quite right. Good article in TSO some time back about this. Could perhaps add more but might then offend some..perhaps off list. Cheers, John TB#0398

Re: Altette Horn
Thanks to Terry, John, Ray & Jack for answering my question about the
horn, Terry, I think the horn I am interested in is the one on the
lower right, at the bottom, however increasing the printing to 200% I
still can not read the script, can you tell me what it written? Also
it is unclear to me where the horn number is printed, was it on a tag on
the back, paper? Decal? Or it is stamped into the frame on the back, up
near the top.
Many thanks to all Cheers Dean

Altette Horn
I bought an Altette Horn from Gerry at Abingdon Spares about three years ago. Gerry had said that a few years earlier he bought a large drum full of 40 or so of used Altette Horns then set about restoring them. I bought one of these, which had the indent on the top of the horn body (I believe this being correct for my 1949 TC) but the chrome ring also only had "Lucas" and "Altette" on it. I figure instead of having the original chrome rings rechromed Gerry, unfortuantely, just replaced all the rings.

Altette Horn
I have just run across an Altette horn that looks identical to the one
on my TC, except that there is no depression in the rear. Other minor
differences are a single nut on front instead of double, and a thicker
mounting bracket. Otherwise they look the same.
Does anyone know what type of car this horn would be appropriate for?

I don't know why Yahoo sometimes strips out the hyperlinks. Here it is again, hopefully clickable.

Re: Altette Horn
the answer to anything about Altette horns is found at http://taffthehorns.com/. The site is amazing and almost any part or horn (there are several variations over the years) is on the site.
