TC 1439 came to me 25 years ago accompanied by what appears to be a NOS Tach gear box (uninstalled). No tach box was installed installed. Time to fit it up. I have a couple of questions:
1 Is it the right gear box? my dynamo is a C45YV service # 228334. The gear box contains markings as follows R 141 and 2.25 1. Do I have the right box?
2 I filled the NOS box with turpentine to flush out the hardened crud. Tried filling the box with 75-140 gear oil and also with 50 weight motor oil. Both leak from the casing joint and rivets as well as the input and output. I did NOT force the lubricant into the box. I was under the impression from previous postings here that the proper Lubricant is motor oil. What gives?

Re: Tach gear box
LAL- Yep you have the right box. I have always used white lithium grease and 10 drops of oil and my orriginal box is just fine after 45 years. mick Pittsburgh, PA
PS: I also repair and rebuild these with new steel gears not like the fiber gears that others supply.
