Restoration

Post by GRaw505@aol.com » Tue Dec 11, 2001 2:00 am

Sorry Guys - I've just picked up the thread on restoration. I spent quite a bit of time and cash a few years ago rebuilding Penny's TC. This was caused by necessity, not cosmetic consideration because it was beginning to fall apart! We ended up replacing all the body parts except the bulkhead and bonnets; rebuilding the engine with new steel crank, rods, etc, etc; upgrading all the rolling gear to tapered bearings. All in all quite a job. We ended up with a very pretty car that at first we considered was almost too good to use. Then the light dawned. What we had actually achieved was a car that was built to a higher standard than original and was quite capable of being used (abused) in the manner which we enjoy but without any nagging doubts about what is going to break next. Apart from this year when sport has been curtailed because of Foot & Mouth, the TC is used twelve months of the year for Trials, Autotests, Navigation Rallys, and will be used next year in Sprints & Hillclimbs. The moral of the story: Do the best that you can then use it as before! Happy Christmas to all Geoff Rawlings
