Hi:
Agree with prior suggestions: check battery volts/connections.
If not a dying battery (or charging system not keeping it up as you ride) It sounds
a lot like a solenoid that has loose wire at output or something wearing out inside (or bad ground, or post touching the frame: you will see a spot with paint chipped).
For a couple of solenoid/relays I have had to replace, they entered a phase of intermittently
working (just a click, but no juice to the starter) before they died.
If you are lucky, it is just a matter of tightening the bolts on the posts of the
solenoid, or replacing the wire with the frayed terminal connector, if it is a bad solenoid, it may be as cheap as $8. Don t do what I did before I learned how cheap it was: a house electricity light switch will handle the amps but doesn t turn on/off as fast
as the correct part!
Good luck!

Question? Any Suggestions??

Yesterday, I parked my KLR, (the engine was still hot), when I went to re-start it. I hit the start button and I only heard a click.
I moved the shifter to make sure it was a neutral, and again, there was only a click. Finally, after a few tries, it started. This morning it started with no problems. This has never happened before.
Does anyone have a suggestion on where I should start? I don't think it's the battery, my guess it is either a loose wire or the starter is starting to fail.
The first thing I'm going to do is spray electrical cleaner fluid into the starter housing, after that, any suggestions?
I thank you in advance.
Eddie
