Next on the list is to check ignition timing, with a timing light, while the Gen2 rotor is still on my Gen1. Following that, I plan to catch some scope patterns if can see anything. cruise control excitement

As per a real cruise control on bikes, I've thought of it , but, never seriously enough to attempt it. I did install a kit unit in an 86 Ford Ranger many years back that worked very well.

 Timing light check = right on timing mark so looks to be triggering from the same point, the rear edge of the reluctor bar. Next, to cut the bar, and grind off the "excess".
Problem solved!
I used a cut-off wheel in a die grinder to slice through the reluctor bar and removed all but 24.5 mm of length. The missing is gone and it's back to peppy as usual.
