Ouch.I heard a non-DOD tire fits the KLR 650. shrug. Fits just fine. That is what I heard. m1

Well, while you English Nazi's correct my goofiness, (wink) I will only confess to the advanced stage of dyslexia, = lexdysia. You decide which one I 'own'. While you ponder that-(grin) Tomorrow morning, I am going to take my bear spray, my KLR, and the kitchen sink, and go to Red Lodge, MT by Thursday. I am going to ride the Chief Joseph Highway, and cross the Bear Tooth Pass on Thursday. Then I am going to tell tall tales by the campfire with KLR Ross L of Williston, ND, When we get tired of that, about 0800 on Friday, the KLR will reverse the direction and RIDE the two passes, Again, on Friday. No, I won't be thinking about all you KiLeRista's at work. not once. So there. Did I mention the bear spray? Sept in MT/WY is a crap shoot. Sept of 2008m the Wx nearly trapped the KLRbugeater and I while crossing Union Pass; started snowing 4 hours before the forecast and it become unpleasant to say the least. It rapidly became dicey, ; We were pretty wet, and John was in early stages of hypothermia, and I was not far behind him. It had taken us 4.5 hours to go what the locals said was a 90 min trip, it what turned out to be a blizzard just as we reached the pass. Not interested in THAT again. Just a tad to much adventure...a tad to much adversity. IRT to Mark/short of tires-- I feel your pain. I ruined a nearly new K270 with a 20p nail through a sidewall...fortunately, I had a full set of tires on the shelf, and was riding again the next day. At the time, I lived 50 miles from the nearest MC shop, and doubtful they had tires either. so, I learned early on-- I keep a set of consumables = tires, a chain, sprocket set, tubes, oil, filters for any bike, all the time. When that 'spare' set is installed, I (nearly) immediately replace them. shrug. That is just me. Right now there are two full sets of KLR tires, and a full set of tires suitable for the dirt bikes. IMO, Our riding season is to short to waste a day(s) waiting on a tire, tube, or chain. Chains and tubes are almost always available, no so much for the other things. 2010, I got a new front tire in Cody, WY. Only one appropriate 21" tire in the town, I got the only tire. Imagine the poor guy that followed me into town that day. He would have to wait 3-5 days for Rocky-Tucker-Rocky to resupply the MC shop; or pay a big fee for next day air. If I had had good sense, I would have started with a brand new tire in 2010 before heading out.... tomorrow, it has a nearly new rear, and a fresh front. Film at 11. revmaaatin.

Last minute tires: I figure I have another 1000+- miles left on the set I just pulled off, but DeSided, (*) I didn't want a torn up knuckle from changing them at the campgrounds (motel etc.) in the middle of a 4,000+ trip.  let alone if it rains near the last bit, I really don't want to be singing the Paul Simon old song,.... "SLIP SLIDING AWAYYYYYYYYYYYY. PSSST. Hey Marten, wheres the spare key to the garage those tires etc are in. (BWA HA HA HA) * De-Sided, instead of Decided,........ For with new tires, better chances to NOT go down the road SIDE ways. Fred Should start a new 2 step "SAFETY" program. every 2 months he sends out a new set of Consumables.  (C.C. or Bank account #  needed.)  Step 1. If you ride as much as you should and need them you will change them. (even before seeing BALD SPOTS & THREADS.) Step 2. There is a viewpoint near the Beartooth Summit, a small parking area leading to a 150 yard hike to the top of a knoll.  The knoll offers an amazing 360 degree view, worth the hike even in full riding gear. Take your camera! Sept in MT/WY is a crap shoot. Sept of 2008m the Wx nearly trapped the KLRbugeater and I while crossing Union Pass; started snowing 4 hours before the forecast and it become unpleasant to say the least. It rapidly became dicey, ; We were pretty wet, and John was in early stages of hypothermia, and I was not far behind him. It had taken us 4.5 hours to go what the locals said was a 90 min trip, it what turned out to be a blizzard just as we reached the pass. Not interested in THAT again. Just a tad to much adventure...a tad to much adversity. IRT to Mark/short of tires-- I feel your pain. I ruined a nearly new K270 with a 20p nail through a sidewall...fortunately, I had a full set of tires on the shelf, and was riding again the next day. At the time, I lived 50 miles from the nearest MC shop, and doubtful they had tires either. so, I learned early on-- I keep a set of consumables = tires, a chain, sprocket set, tubes, oil, filters for any bike, all the time. When that 'spare' set is installed, I (nearly) immediately replace them. shrug. That is just me. Right now there are two full sets of KLR tires, and a full set of tires suitable for the dirt bikes. IMO, Our riding season is to short to waste a day(s) waiting on a tire, tube, or chain. Chains and tubes are almost always available, no so much for the other things. 2010, I got a new front tire in Cody, WY. Only one appropriate 21" tire in the town, I got the only tire. Imagine the poor guy that followed me into town that day. He would have to wait 3-5 days for Rocky-Tucker-Rocky to resupply the MC shop; or pay a big fee for next day air. If I had had good sense, I would have started with a brand new tire in 2010 before heading out.... tomorrow, it has a nearly new rear, and a fresh front. Film at 11. revmaaatin.

I called 9 places with in 80 miles. (5 Kaw. dealers, 3 here in GR area. 2nd largest city in Mi.)   Found the same thing near Pittsburgh PA. A Large city.   BMW (2 miles away) is the only one that stocks, the tires. (because they are the same size as the F- -. GS bikes (650, 800 etc)   The FYI,  SO if in a last minute pinch, and BMW ($$$) may be your best bet.
