  Group, Next week I'm heading north for a 2 month trip on my 03 KLR and was thinking of just taking combo wrenches in the toolkit (along with necessary add'l tools)n but leaving the socket set at home. Can anyone think of an application that might require a socket for side-of-the-road repairs that just the wrenches couldn't get at? So many of the toolkits I've seen have both I'm already second guessing my choice. How many tools does it "take"? For just your klr not many,  BUT some of us, are the type to stop and help OTHERS, I've spent my whole life with this habit. (And many of my jobs) So I carry a Tire Plug kit, even when on the KLR, (TUBES) I've gotten OTHERS I AM RIDING WITH, THAT CARRY VERY LITTLE, going and twice now even 2 cages, (1 car 1 1ton truck)(& got a few other cages going by having the "right" tools for THIER JOB.) It took a while for the PSI to get up there, but not nearly as long as waiting for a wrecker, or driving another 200 miles hm on a WHIMPY "Donut" tire.  SO, ......... I mounted a PVC tube, (painted black) to the front "highway pegs" bar. adds front end weight.(2 1lg 1sm)Used Rubber (with bolts compressing) WATER TIGHT SEWER PIPE CLEAN OUT PLUG's on the end's. They have wing nuts, thou I changed the cheaper W. nuts for stronger Stainless, and use a wrench (pliers etc) to tighten them so not so easy for someone walking by to open them. I keep my tire irons, tire the LARGE AXLE NUT WRENCH'S, a spare oil filter, etc in the PVC tubes. When I take other cases into a motel etc, the tubes stay put.
