last yr I took off the front heat shield it was RATTLING a lot, the bolt holes had worn.
From those post a lot of people said what I expected, "NORMAL", and PAIN TO REPAIR.
I would say like the Doo hickey, do some P.M.S.
(P.M.S. U.S. Navy for, Preventive Maintenance Service)
Take it off  BEFORE it wears and have washers welded over the holes for REINFORCEMENT.
No welder?, I would think MOST muffler shops, ETC. would do it for about $10.-$20.
Cheaper then a new shield and LESS WORK LATER.

Isn't there some sort of fiber washer that is supposed to go between the shield and the pipe?  Like an insulator?  I think that washer kind of disappears and then the thing rattles because there is space that the washer took up that is now just space. My solution was to grind down the bolt that holds it and tighten it down and put it metal to metal.  I'm sure it isn't as good a heat shield now, but it doesn't rattle any more, so I got that going for me! Yes, there are two special crush washers on each bolt for the exhaust shield.   Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com   From: robert@... I just put a small flat washer on both sides of the shield, then tighten the screw. A larger contact area compensates for the worn/corroded hole in almost all cases. A spot of muffler paint usually heads off further corrosion and lasts for a year or so. After than another spot of paint.
