About four months ago I spotted a *new* Seca II in a shop in
Bellflower. What the hell are these shop owners thinking?

There is a dealer near me that still has a brand new 1998 Suzuki Bandit
600.He had a brand new 1998 1200 Bandit also, but I'm not sure if its sold
yet.I prefer the looks of the older Bandits to the new fairing style
myself. If he still has this 600 in about a year, I may be interested.

Well, Pat, it's like this: My brand new 2001 KLR250 was broken in
according to the book.I even changed oil and filter (after the 500 mile)
again at 1325 miles, as I wanted clean oil for the holiday weekend, when my
friend and I were going offroad riding near Lake Cushman, Wa. USA.On the way
back to his cabin, my 250 started knocking very badly. We trailered it hpme,
and I trailered it to the dealer. They tore into it and found oil starvation
to the top end.It took the hard coating off both camshafts, and of course,
the cam "bearings" (all current Japanese motorcycles use the bare cylinder
head as the "bearing", so the head is complete junk whenever a problem like
this occurs, or when normal wear goes beyond specs). So the head is junk
too. They found some gasket sealer had shook loose and lodged in an oil line
supplying oil to the top end.I've been without a motorcycle for five weeks
now, with some of the most beautiful early spring weather in western
Washington that I can remember. They finally got the parts in, and I should
get my KLR back Saturday.

Can some of you suggest some really decent rain gear for riding? My car is
living on borrowed time, and I live in western Washington State (the rain
capitol).I could concievably get stuck having to ride my KLR250 to work and
back-a distance of 65 miles round trip.
Thanks, Jon Neet

Jon, I live in western Oregon. Rains here also. If Renton is close enough
I'd reccomend Renton Motorcycle works. Belstaff dealer. Bought a Belstaff
from them via phone. Am real happy with them and the coat. For pants I'm
using goretex snowboarder pants. The're ok. Am starting to look at foul
weather sailing bibs that breath. About $150 at west Marine. Beautiful KLR
yellow.

I have a two piece TourMaster, and I would highly recommend it. Can't remember what the Model # is, but it cost around $100.00

I have a two piece Technics raingear, which keeps me very dry. The jacket
even kept the water out when I capsized my sailboat while wearing it. Very
durable too, cause I have used it for 6 years and the technology can only
have improved.

I've got the Delta rainsuit from Motoport. Inexpensive but effective.

I'm looking for impressions and opinons, personal
experiences about V Stroms by KLR owners. 1000 VS
650 ? any good on dirt roads? Can 650 handle 2 up on
highway very well? I'm not planning on getting rid of
my KLRs just thinking about adding a bike to my
stable. Please answer off list as its non KLR and I
don't want to start a flame war. Chris
