I used to subscribe to Motorcyclist, Cycle World, and Motorcycle Consumer News. Since we've moved to the UK I also pick up Motor Cycle News (MCN), a weekly paper. Then we had kids and my reading time has been severely curtailed. I decided to drop two from those three.. This at first seemed like a difficult choice, but I noticed over the last few years I started to...dislike Motorcyclist. I just got the feeling that it was all flash and no substance. And it all seemed to coincide with their current editor. My biggest peeve with that periodical was the editor's response to reader letters. Just flippant and condescending with nary an ounce of cleverness. On the other hand I feel that the quality of Cycle World has greatly improved. It was never lacking before, but the aforementioned adventure bike comparison, following world developments in motorcycling, Peter Egan motorcycling love stories, Kevin Cameron elaborating on engineering, and even the editors column are good reading. Motorcycle Consumer News has been a great rock-steady read for years. Many held reservations about their change from black-and-white to color, but I think it's better now and has not lost any quality. The articles on medical motorcycling and hypothetical hazardous situations are a good aspect of this magazine that serves to remind you that the rider is the most important component of any motorcycle. MCN helps me keep up on the industry, racing, and politics every week along with some great reviews and comparisons. The classified section allows me to indulge an unhealthy motorcycle acquisition fantasy. I decided earlier that I would cut out two. In the end I cut Motorcyclist and only pick up MCN if the front page tickles my eyes. Did Motorcyclist get worse? Did Cycle World get better? Am I just getting older? I think you are right on the quality of Motorcyclist.....but I have seen the quality of a number of magazines go down, not just motorcycle mags. I attribute it to the Internet age. Too much competition from digital I think. A lot easier and cheaper to go electronic than to print glossy mags. I now get two newspapers electronically, plus my National Geographic. The men's mags like Playboy are really in trouble as you can get a lot of that stuff free on the Internet. I think dead tree publication will be gone in ten years. Things like libraries, school books all in my mind should be electronic. I can do research a lot quicker on the Internet than by going to any library. I am a retired graphic artist and just can see the writing on the wall. Plus with the motorcycle business in general has been hit hard by the recession I think. Motorcyclist always seemed in the past to be mostly sport bike orientated. How many articles can you do about riding on the latest wheelie machine? The motorcycle world is a lot broader than that. Motorcycle Consumer News Here. Libraries: Our county promotes, E. "BOOKS", you can down load into Lap top etc. WITH A TWO WEEK LIMIT. (unless you "RE-Borrow"?) While I am a fan of USING the Library, I do understand the "arguement" of, They compete with The Book SELLING Business. If downloading Music for FREE! is wrong, becuase the singer, promoter etc do not get there Royalties, Then what about BOOK Authors? Main issue: Libraries ARE GOING ELECTRONIC. AND tey have SEVERAL Computors to use. More people On the Computors, Doing research, PLAYING GAMES, WATCHING VIDEO'S, ETC ETC., Then in the Books Dept.,

The old, great minds think alike. I've also settled on CW and MCN pretty much for the reasons you stated. I also subscribe to a couple of mags that arrive 4 times a year. Motorcycle Classics very well written - and Sidecarist thrown together.
