Speaking of Moab trips, a friend of mine wants to do one in the last week of March. I'm not sure how the trails will be around that time, though I'm wondering because Fred says that in May the mountain roads will still have snow. Anywho, the plan was to take the CRF450X's.......but I wonder how the local trails would be with the 2009 KLR650. I used to take my 1998 KLR through some REAL nasty stuff, places it never should have been, and it always came through. Obviously the CRF is a better off road bike, but most of the videos I've seen online, the Moab trails look pretty tame. When I asked which trails they wanted to ride, the response was "all of them". So I can't say which ones they plan on riding. Any insight here would be great. What got me thinking of taking the KLR was Arrowhead being in Moab. Ryan Phoenix, AZ

You answered your own question. If you want to do all the trails then the KLR is not the ticket. Your CRF is a much better bike to do all of our trails. Our trails are close enough to town that you don t have to drive on the highway for any more than 15-30 minutes. I had a CRFx myself and for a local one bike ride, this is the best. If you are having to ride your bike in from Phoenix, then of course the KLR would be much better. The trails are ride able most all year except for ice, mud or rock slides. Weather changes here as often as any place else and in the spring can be different from one day to the next and sometimes from one hour to the next. You can ask me anytime what the local weather is here and/or the trail conditions. Forecasting weather is not one of my abilities. I leave that up to the professionals and they usually get it wrong too. Thanks for the feedback. We won't be riding from Phoenix, likely driving the pickup with the bikes in the back. The KLR is convenient because it's plated for the street. The CRF450X only has an OHV plate, and I don't want to get it fully licensed. The word on the street is that the local authorities won't bother you too much if you ride on pavement, as long as you're not being an idiot. I'm not sure how true that is, but I don't want a ticket either. Ryan Phoenix, AZ Fred Hink wrote:
