Arthritis: AVOID Citric Acid's, Lemons, Oranges, Pine-apple ETC. For yr's the docs gave me strong meds that did little, then I talked to a nutritionist, and found that Citric acids CAUSE Inflammation, (tommato has it's issues also). 1 small cup, and by end of day, it's hard to close my hand let alone hole a pencil. With out it, (C.A.) No problem, or VERY rare issues. Some other foods cause it some, NITRATES etc. but nothing like citric acid's PS. I LOVE!!!!! Orange juice, Ice cold Lemon aid, and Fresh Pineapple. But hate the PAIN!!!

Most of the riding will be roads vs trails and i am considering what sort of machine i need. The KLR sends a viscous dither through my hands to my wrists, so i am considering what i should now ride. I've looked at a variety of bikes and will appreciate suggestions from you kind folks. Briefly; I am 6'2", 225 with only a touch of arthritis on my left side. I plan to take long trips, think east coast to west coast with a few days of 10 hours in the saddle. Your suggestions for my next bike is greatly appreciated. --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, mark ward wrote: > > I was told that, I should start thinking of my future, ..."you will not be able to ride all your life." > > And I realized how right they are, at 53 & 3/4, a time is coming when My Knee etc. are going to be an "ISSUE". > > SO..............anyone ever seen a KLR650 Trike?? > (I gotta "grow up" and start planning ya know) > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

bikes for when we "grow up"

I'm "only" 55 but I find my KLR to be the most comfortable of my bikes (GS450, VX800) for longer rides mainly due to the legroom, and I'm not tall at 5'9". I tend to like the smaller bikes for just about everything except long drones on the slab. I tend to ride alone so anything I can't pick up by myself out in the middle of nowhere is not going to be my first choice. For that reason alone If I were shopping I'd be looking at middleweights like the F800GS, G650GS, Versys, V-Strom, Honda NC700X. I don't even like to take the KLR too far off-road, meaning no road or single track. Got into a sandy silty river bed once with Pirelli Scorpion A/T tires. Was no fun and a ton of work to get out of there. I know the KLR is more capable than that but I'm not, so any of these "bad-road" capable bikes would likely be more than enough for me. I did 673 miles in one day on the KLR. Eleven hours of saddle time, lots of back roads at 55-60mph, then a couple hours of slab to get a bit closer to home before turning in for the evening. Doing an Iron Butt on this KLR would certainly not be impossible. I think my seat foam was modified by the PO. Slap a sheepskin on it and while not comfy it never gets unbearable even after 11 hrs in the saddle. Of the above-mentioned bikes the Honda NC700X is the newest design and has an interesting laid down parallel-twin stroker motor that will return 70mpg if ridden gently. The suspension is price-point but since the bike is only $7k there's room for upgrades. -- Ian Francisco http://www.scarletfuries.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Scarlet-Furies/121218125931 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

If you'd told me 45 years ago that I'd be trading arthritis tips with me moto mates in 2012, I'd have laughed you out of the room. I thought I'd be dead by now, and anyway old people don't ride motorcycles! I got a lengthened clutch actuator lever (Fred sells 'em now) because of the touch of 'ritis in left hand. Clutch easier to pull, way less pain, longer riding ability. Old Farts, Adapt!
