oil and air filters

I've been using these Hi-Flo oil filters
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kawasaki-KLR-650-KLR650-KLR250-250-Oil-Filter-Change-Kit-Crush-Washer-1987-2012-/280962170902?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item416aa68016&vxp=mtr
The K&N filters put too much emphasis on flow and not enough on filtering.
Might be ok for racing or performance applications where longevity is not a
concern but for street and dirt riding just about anything else would be
better. I use a Uni filter in the airbox. For the newbies, don't forget to
re-oil the air filter after cleaning it. It won't trap any dirt at all
without oil. Don't over-oil it - that will cause a different set of
problems.

K&N and HiFlo _oil_ filters are the same filter.
We use them in the bike shop and the only difference in the cartridge type
filters are the cannisters. The K&N has the stamped metal 17mm "nut" on the end.
The internals are identical. The Hi-Flow is only a little more than 1/2 the cost of the K&N counterpart.
K&N and HiFlo KLR filters are the same except the price, too.
They are well made. But, I found that the grommets
on the K&N/HiFlo parts didn't seal well against the metal pipe check valve.
I ended up robbing some from a Fram filter(which sealed much better).
I could get a Hi-Flo filter + a Fram and make up one good filter
for less than a factory Kaw. filter AND... The Fram came with a new cover o-ring.
As for a K&N air filter? I wouldn't run one in my bike. Period.
I bought a Uni two-stage foam filter and a service kit.

I've been using EMGO 10-30000 oil filters since 2004 and pay less than $3
each. I order them in batches of 10 which is a case/box. It's the same
price if I only order one at a time. I order them from my local
independent motocross shop that orders from Parts Unlimited. It usually
takes about 4-5 days to get the parts.
