It was somewhat bittersweet, as years back I had been down to the 7500' level when Homestake was still mining gold. On the way from Lead to Deadwood we went past a Deer Crossing sign in the middle of downtown Lead; sure enough, there were six deer jaywalking on the next block! Kevin

Lead is a fun town to ride in. Jeffie Ecker has devised an urban DS loop through the streets and alleys of Lead. There are some gnarly climbs and hair-raising descents.

Heading out of Lead for Cheyenne Crossing and some Indian Tacos, the local kid on the 600 sport bike rolled his wrist and railed through the first big sweeper out of town. I started to go with him, but thought better of chasing him on the big pig ST1100 with cold tires. This whole maturity thing is starting to work well for me! Kevin
