Sent from my iPad How do you guys run the nut that is on the valve stem? Do you screw it down tight on the rim....or do as some dirt riders do I have heard that tighten it up to the valve cap? I was leaving it snug on the cap....but checked it the other day fixin to go for a ride and the stem was at about a forty five degree angle. Not good. My buddy says snug it up to the rim. Criswell

valve stem nuts???

Criz, That stem at a 45 angle is the reason you run the nut up under the valve cap, That is your early warning that the tire is slipping on the rim, probably due to underinflation. If you run the nut down tight to the rim, and if you continue to neglect your tire pressures, sooner or later the tube will tear away from the stem and you will have an un-patchable flat. When you see the stem cocked at an angle like that, you have received a sign. It is tim eto deflate the tube, break the bead, and shift everything until the stem is vertical again. If you don't have time to do that, at least air up the tire a bit so the stem does not rip out of the tube until you get a chance to put it right. If you want to run pressures that would allow the tire to shift, install rim locks.
