So I'm driving down the hiway recently chasing some parts for my washing machine & all of a sudden the bike just dies as if I hit the kill switch. I was able to coast to the shade under a bridge.I was able to make some calls & as I was waiting for a friend to pick me up w/a trailer I had some time to kill so I got my tools out.After removing the fuel tank & seat,etc. I was able to get to the spark plug.I pulled it out of the cylinder then put in back up in the boot.I then grounded the plug to the cylinder & engaged the starter button. I could not get a spark at all after several attempts. I think I have a bad coil or stator.Most likely a stator. I belive I can perform an Ohms resistance check to verify.Does any one know which wires to check & what the resistance should be? Also,how to check the coil.I believe it could be tested the same way & if so ... what that reading should be?

Test a stator by checking resistance between all three combinations of leads. The resistance should be relatively the same, regardless of what it is. Same thing with checking AC voltage out with the bike running. Different bikes vary, but all three legs should be the same or the stator is bad. Could be the coil, as you said, and don't count out the Reg/Rec.
