need suggestions for alternative parts in mexico

Having a bit of a cooling system problem in Mexico. I believe that the thermostat whent out first, overheating the fan switch (the sensor that screws into the bottom of the radiator. So at this point I need both a thermostat and fan switch.
Does anyone know of any other non-KLR thermostat or fan switch that will fit?
I know I can make it to the US without the thermostat (It's not too cold here) but would prefer to replace it and really need the fan switch. Creativity much appreciated.

Steve,
I've never heard of an alternative stat or fan switch for the KLR. I
looked quite a bit a few years ago.
I doubt the coolant could get hot enough to hurt the fan switch unless it
was also puking out the cap/overflow. And then I doubt it would hurt the
switch.
What year is the bike?
Did you test the switch to see if it works or is something else in the
system that is causing a non run issue?
Is the fan fuse good?
If a '87-07 KLR650 have you grounded the wire that connects to the fan
switch to see if the fan turns on?
Does the radiator have a good ground? If it doesn't the switch can work
as designed and the fan still won't come on as the ground will be missing
from the circuit.
Best,

You could wire in a manual switch for the fan and if you are going to run
without a thermostat better to remove the center from the bad one so it
still gives some restriction to flow like an always open thermostat. That
would be better than none and would get you home without problems so long as
nothing else was damaged. Then you could get the right parts.

since warming up the engine is not an issue, a buddy taught me a long
time ago to drill at least one hole around the edge of a suspected bad
thermostat or even a new thermostat for that matter. this allows water
to get thru (all the time) and prevent any components from 'blowing'
out... you could put multiple holes in but as Walt said, you should keep
something in there... imho
