oh, crap.
32 years ago this past March, a lady ran a stop sign and broadsided me and my bicycle mere yards from my house.
A broken collarbone, 8 stitches over my right eye and a lot of bruises were the result.
All this time since, my right shoulder has made funny noises when I rotated an outstretched arm.
Never any pain, until a few weeks ago. It was sleepless night-inducing at first and has subsided into, "It only hurts when I did ___. "
This coming Friday, I see a surgeon about it.
Now for the Oh,Crap moment.
I have no place to store my KLR, my girlfriend is too short to ride it.
If they do surgery, the recovery would prevent any riding for a while - lest I screw up my shoulder all over again.
So, I have put it up for sale. There's a guy coming from out of town tomorrow to look at it.
He's serious enough to drive 40 miles one-way past his intended destination to get here. So, I really hope he's
not wasting my time or his with a low-ball offer. The bike's farkled-out with crash bars, centerstand, HID lights,
Eagle Mike doohickey kit, Thermo-bob, KLR soft luggage and even a GiVi-clone hard case for the rear rack.
It took me three years to get it like I have now. It's going to be hard to let it go.
If the prospective buyer calls and backs out or makes some rediculous offer, I'm tempted to pull the ad and "give" the bike
to a friend I trust to ride it. He just sold his bike to make way for a new baby and would be happy to
have something he could go play on that wouldn't ding his finances beyond insurance.
Wish me luck.

oh, crap.
On all my craigslist listings, I end with, "LOWBALLERS THE PRICE WILL GO UP"
I have had about 8 come to the house and offer less.
Example: I sold a NEW scorpion helmet $120 and extra shield.
him" Will you except $100.?
me; I'll except $130.
him: you can't go up in price.
Me" Why not?, I'll tell you what, You KNOW it's a good deal, I'll offer to except $120., one more time, after that..it goes up $10 each time you waist my time.
Him: (laughing) Seriously will you take $100.
Me: Seriously, As I said It's now $130., either hand $130. or walk away I have things to do and "time is money" and I'm NOT, starving.
HE DID!
It has worked 9 out of ten times, only one person walked away, Most will not even come to the house, unless READY TO BUY. (If the offer IS what is listed, not less then listed.)
I had TOOOOOOO many people "kick tires" & "Hee Haw" around for 20 min. to offer way less.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Know the feeling. in '86 I was hit and run at an intersection from behind in the rain at night. Still don't remember the wreck. One second at the corner, next second in the hospital 12 miles away. Vertigo from the concussion though a good helmet kept me off anything that reqired good balance for near 6 years, going up one step at a time till I was able to get back on a bike in '92. Since, have racked up over 250K miles. I agree with you on selling prices. I put out a price and will not accept one penny less just on princible. But, I had not thought of going up on the price each time the same person asked. Thanks!> > 32 years ago this past March, a lady ran a stop sign and broadsided me and my bicycle mere yards from my house. > A broken collarbone, 8 stitches over my right eye and a lot of bruises were the result.

need starter / cut-off switch
I broke the cut-off switch (the red plastic switch that is in the housing that contains the starter button), but can't seem to find the unit on any of the normal supplier sites. I would be happy (actually, happier) to go with a used unit as I really only need to replace the cut-off switch, not the entire harness. But I'll take what I can get. I'm in Mexico and managed to wire the circuit closed so that I can start the bike (always helpful), but I would like to replace the switch when I get to the US in a few weeks. Thanks

oh, crap.
I was up most of the night with family issues.(Sparing the details, it was a very long night.)
My mind kept thinking about the fellow coming 40 miles to see the KLR today,etc...
With almost no sleep, I finally rang the man around 9am and told him I just couldn't see him today.
I was apologetic. He was nice and understanding. Maybe another day.
Rare is it the seller who's the one that backs out of a meeting. But, I was texhausted.
I got a little rest and was back out near lunch time.
Omen: I took the KLR and a few minutes out, I got CCR's "Fortunate Son" of all things stuck in my head.
Zipping through traffic, I realized I probably should keep the KLR. Even if it gets gunked up a little from sitting, it's simple to fix
and far cheaper than buying another bike months from now.
If I have to let it sit, I'll just change the oil, drain the tank completely and get 1/2 gallon of 50:1 Tru-Fuel and pour in there.
Next, I'll run the bike for a few minutes to be sure the stuff's inside the carb good, stop,
drain the float bowl and then run it again. They claim Tru Fuel's good for 2 years once you open the container and it's got
synthetic oil mixed in with it. So, the carb parts and intake tract might get a little protective coating. {Wishful thinking? Can't hurt.}
Ready to ride again, I'll grab a can and get a few gallons of fresh gas. That should sufficiently dilute the TruFuel and I should be good to go.

Yes!
Good decision.
You'll be back on it in no time, and if not, at least you will be able
to farkle it a little more.

In the northern states 5-7 months of winter storage is a Normal every year thing.
(except for people like Me, KEEP GOING)
I like to use Premium and Stabel when I do store a bike. (change oil Lube chain etc.) then spring....Fires right up.
