fred? - balancer chain adjustment rubber cap grommet thing

Post by RobertWichert » Tue May 15, 2012 7:47 pm

OK, I haven't "done the doo" but I did try to let the stock balancer chain adjuster do its thing. Seemed easy enough. Remove the rubber cap, loosen the bolt/whatever, tighten the bolt/whatever. Seemed harmless. BUT THE DARNED CAP WON'T GO BACK ON!!!!!!! It seems too big to fit, but it was in there, I'm sure of that. It seems like maybe it is swollen from oil or anti-freeze or something, but I'm sure the local dealer will have nothing even remotely like it and ordering it will take a month. Anybody got any ideas or seen this before? I'm ready to whittle it down and glue it on with silicone or fill the hole with silicone, I haven't decided which. I have already beaten it severely and pushed it with sockets, screwdrivers, my sore hands, and whatever I could think of. No dice. I didn't lube it up with anything yet, because that usually results in whatever you press in flying back out in ten minutes. -- Robert Wichert P.Eng. <><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Robert, As I recall the inside portion of that cap is a hex shape so it only fits on the adjustment lockbolt 6 ways. : ) If I was giving this a try I'd spray some silicone lube on the cap and try it again. I also kind of remember the center has a little hole in it to let air escape from the top of the adjustment lockbolt.
