I seek some input, please. I bought a used K-9 Fork Brace, and a pal helped me to installed it. It seems that the K-9 does not easily fit over the rubber boot. And, we wound up installing the brace less than a half inch above the wheel - on top of the rubber boot.
My questions..... Is that too low? Too close to the wheel? How far above the tire should the K-9 be? FYI - the brace did not come with instructions.
I realize this all moves as one unit (forks, brace and tire), but I am leery of having it so close to the tire. Your opinion please.

fork brace question...............
I am not an expert,
I may be mistaken IMO,
but I do have a 'used' fork brace in a box on my shelf....
I don't think any fork brace is supposed to fit over the fork boot. Otherwise it would be very bracey.
In my mind and it should be metal to metal contact and the fork boot goes over the top edge of the brace or is relocated to the remaining amount of lower fork.
As far as clearance, that is the problem.
Most of the fork braces give minimum clearance.
I have had significant mud rolled up on the front tire, and it would have choked the wheel if the brace was installed.
How do I know? My riding partner that day had his fork brace installed and we spent a significant amount of time clearing it out, more than once. Come to think of it, I also had a brace installed and took it off that day or soon after.
I think list wisdom suggests the fork brace is primarily a 'road-use' item; that is why mine is on the shelf and not on the bike. shrug.
I might be wrong about the road use as well.
My brace was installed by the PO, it worked very well on asphalt, less than 1" of clearance = not sufficient for the gumbo crap I occasionally find weekly. When the wheel fills up with mud, you will be taking a dirt nap; no ifs, ands, or buts. dirt nap. and most likely it will hurt.
revmaaatin.

What sleek lines! Almost as graceful as an Amazonas.

KLR rear suspension and most of main frame still stock but has a GXSR 750 triple tree and front end set up with large dual front rotors. Handmade pan seat, quad off-road bars, fork seals are good, and street tires rear is 95% tread left front maybe 25% or less. The tank has no damage just a crap paint job. The bike was parked with approximately 75k on the odometer because of motor was getting weak. It has been sitting for around a year or so (no title). Lots of good parts on bike and would make a great project bike if you got the time. It was the funnest bike I have ever ridden, short wheel base and very agile. $300 Call/text Ray at 520-four eight eight-6155 > > http://tucson.craigslist.org/mcy/2983256987.html > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] >
