happy trails klr650 25th anniversary rally

Post by Kurt Simpson » Sun Mar 11, 2012 12:56 pm

After Fred decided to take a well-deserved break from hosting the annual rally in Moab, Tim Bernard thought it would be a natural to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the KLR650 with a rally in Idaho where some of the best riding in the world (outside of Moab) is available. We expect to have a terrific turn-out. Please feel free to write me at kurt.simpson@... for more information or register on-line herehttp://www.happy-trail.com/KLR-25th-Anniversary-Rally.aspx> . Hope to see you in June, Kurt Simpson PS: Tim is building a special KLR and hopes to have it ready for unveiling at the rally. It is themed in red, white and blue and he's calling it "the Captain America Bike." In reply to David's post ... cam chain question

Post by David Nichols » Sun Mar 11, 2012 1:40 pm

Here's a photo of my engine, looks like it's supposed to be this way: http://flic.kr/p/bpi83o ________________________________ From: snowcrash007 To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, March 11, 2012 12:27 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] cam chain question I did my valve adjust and put everything back together. Just lifted up the cams enough to slide the shim in and out, did not take the chain off. I put everything backtogether, tightened it up , put the cam chain tensioner back in. It turns over by hand, valve specs are good. When bothers me is looking down at the engine, the rear wheel and nut seem pretty close to the side of the engine, the front one has more clearance. Once the cam camps are in place and tightened, it would appear to me there can only be one right way to do it. The chain is on the teeth, the guides on and looks good to me. I found this picture at marknets sight, and you can see the rear nut is closer than the front, the way mine looks now. http://www.klr650.marknet.us/abysspic.jpg First time in the engine so I just want to make sure its supposed to be like this.
