I found this on Craigslist. I have no knowledge of this. I'm just sharing what looks like a good deal. It may just need the valves adjusted. -David __________________________________________ 1993 KAWASAKI KLR 650--DOES NOT RUN!!!!!! THE BIKE WAS RUNNING WHEN PARKED. IT WAS HARD STARTING AND THE KAWASAKI DEALER SAID IT PROBABLY NEEDS A VALVE JOB. [APPROX $600.00] BIKE HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE SINCE THEN. IT HAS 21,000 MILES ON IT. I just bought a new to me KLR650 and I was wondering if there's a way to determine if the doohickey has been done or not.

Ideally, you would ask the previous owner. It is not something a decent KLR rider would be deceptive about. Bought the bike from a dealer? the prior owner should be on the title. revmaaatin.

A dealer wouldn't tell you because they can't admit there is a problem. I don't know where you live but there are often tech sessions for KLR and somebody at one of those has done the doo or is doing the doo. I had buddies at Moab help me with mine in the dirt parking lot of canyon lands campground. The hardest part is pulling the flywheel. I plan to put a torsion spring on mine next time.
