Wilsons Sandbox

I needed some soft bags for this coming rally season and didn't want to spend a small fortune like I did on the aluminum boxes that work so well for comuting and general riding. The boxes ar enice but in hard off road and at speed they are a great way to snap an ankle. I am gonna go hammer through the forest a few times and commute with them for a few months to see how they work out but I think I have them pretty well sorted now. I have no idea what the Swiss need such heavy duty mega water proof backpacks for if they are all "neutral" but they are serious about not getting their stuff wet. If you need a pair of saddle bags once in a while this is a good cheapo option. The pictures start with how they come. I hacked the shoulder strap off and put two 1 inch web straps though the fittings. Looped it through several times and adjusted it to the seat width. I hooked the rear strap though the tool case strap although your means of locking them in place will vary. Last shots show them full and being closed as well as how they sit on the saddle bag frames. Not shown is the bits of velcro strapped around the lower frame and through the lower buckles on the bags. There are lots of buckle things on them. These bags have roll up closures and are very sturdy for $18 a piece. They are very thick Nylon with a rubbery PVC coating. I suspect I have some stuff to cut off still but they seem to fit the bike perfectly. Thanks for the info, I have been looking at doing something like this but I had some cheapo backpacker daybags in mind. This is cheaper and way better... I'm going to order myself up a couple! They are the right soze too. ----- Forwarded Message ----- Listers, Albuquerque, NM Travel time: 0 hrs 02 mins Distance: 1 mile My alarm clock goes off at 5 am. I get up and use the bathroom. Steve is up when I get out and go to wake him. We both pack quickly and start loading the bikes. Kent and Carol are up and we have a quick breakfast. I brush my teeth and finish packing a few last minute items on my bike. Steve rolls his bike down the driveway and then I ride mine backwards down the driveway and park behind him. I'm geared up and the GPS is locked and loaded. Steve is ready and I guess this is it. It's a few minutes to 6 on a Wednesday. Carol takes a picture of us with the bikes and that's kind of the end of De Tour. We say thanks and good bye to Kent and Carol. We've both had a wonderful time visiting them in Albuquerque and really enjoy their company. Steve and I look at each other. Two years earlier when we got to Antelope Wells, NM, which is the end of the Great Divide Ride, we kind of looked at each other the same way. But this time we've got a bit of a plan as he's riding to Canyon, Texas to meet his son Chris for the ride home and I've got a route planned for getting me back to the Black Hills. We say our good byes and kind of know we can't really express how much we've enjoyed traveling with each other. This has probably been the best trip I've ever been on. We don our ear plugs, helmets and gloves and Steve leads as we head off. A right turn and a right turn and a stop and Steve needs to turn right and I need to turn left. He slaps my hand in a goodbye gesture and rides off. De End of De Tour.
