brake pads?
I made an earlier post about brake rotors but forgot to ask if anyone
could recommend brake pads at a reasonable cost and where to get them.
Cycle brakes has Bendix pads for the front MA012 at $19.99, plus
shipping and Galfer FD075 for the rear, Black $23.99, Green and HH
$33.99. I've read earlier posts that say stay away from the galfers.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

For the price, you can't beat EBC sintered pads, especially with grooved rotors. They're thicker than the others, so will last longer with grooved rotors. You'll need to do some sessions of hard brake - roll - hard brake - roll in order to get them to conform to the grooves, but after that, they'll haul you down just fine. Where to get them -- I walk into my Kawsasaki dealer and say, "I want some EBC brake pads for my KLR-650." They walk to the back and get them -- they're the only brake pads they actually stock (they don't stock the OEM ones). I don't know where you get them if you don't happen to live in Fremont, California, though... -E> I made an earlier post about brake rotors but forgot to ask if anyone > could recommend brake pads at a reasonable cost and where to get them.

OK - looks like I need to order a torsion spring from Fred - I also
need some brake pads while I'm ordering.. Are the Galfer greens
still the way to go? I ride mostly street and have a braided front
brake line as well...
Thanks!

I like 'em with my oversized rotor, but I preferred the Dunlopad HHs with the stock rotor--the Dunlopads are more aggressive so they gave more overall stopping power, but they still had pretty good feel at the lever. If you do any riding at all in the rain or mud you are better off with sintered pads. DP brakes standard sintered compound (the HH stop better but wear faster) or EBC Sintered are good choices. These last longer than the Galfer greens which stop a little better but suck when wet and wear faster. Walt,
I've got EBC's on my bike and like them just fine.

brake pads?
I'd like suggestions for the best brake pads for my 1997 KLR650. I have seen them for as low as $6 on Ebay for nameless pads and as high as $40 for Galfer pads (per wheel prices). My questions are: Are the cheap Ebay ones really bad? What's the best value pad?

What s your neck worth? I tend to believe that money saved on cheap brakes is money wasted. I m sure the cheap brakepads will stop you but heck so will your feet. It s the last 5 ft. of stopping distance that is most critical. Good brakes could save your life.

Thanks Fred, so of the choices for name brands, which is the best? Galfer, Dunlopads, EBC, or SBS?
