If your helmet comes off, your chances of walking away are greatly reduced. My point was that having a hair style for style s sake isn t necessarily appropriate on a race track. I was wondering if all that hair crammed under his helmet wouldn t allow the helmet to stay snuggly to his head and that may have contributed to it coming off. Marco may have died from being run over but being run over without a helmet is sure disaster. Just wondering..... > > Fred > www.arrowheadmotorsports.com > > > From: RobertWichert > Sent: Friday, October 28, 2011 8:32 AM > To: Fred Hink > Cc: Lourd Baltimore ; Ron Criswell ; dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com > Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] [NKLR] Marco Simoncelli > > > If you watched the video, Fred, it was two direct hits that did it, not > his haircut, you can be sure of that. Watching the video again, you can see that Marco's helmet strap is broken on one side but still in one piece while remaining connected to the other side of the helmet. A tremendous (wedge) force had to be applied in a certain way to break the chin strap (buckle was OK). Although it is hard to tell, it seems that the strap is still connected to the side of the helmet that would have been grinding on the track surface for some distance, therefore, eliminating the possiblity that the strap anchor area of the helmet gave way.
Granted, his hair volume could have positioned his helmet higher than normal and expose more of his neck or it could have been custom-made helmet to accept the hair and still be at a specified position to provide coverage (?). The little bit of extra "gap" between the shoulders and helmet could have given the one rider (Rossi or Edwards?) enough of an "opening" to do the damage but who really knows. All just speculation by an semi-observant science-guy.

costco kawasaki??
Has anyone on the list bought a Costco Kawasaki yet? I heard they were going to start carrying them and was just at my local Costco and saw a bike I have been considering buying. The KLX 250 for $4856 total out the door with a $250 Costco gift card. Put that with my yearly rebates from both Costco and AmEx from using a AmEx Costco card and seems like a heck of a deal.
