Update: OK, I drained the carb (thanks for the advise to John B.) The carb has gas flowing through it, and the gas is clean (I siphoned the old gas from the tank and added new gas.) Was not sure how much to drain from the carb, so I backed out the carb drain plug, turned the fuel to "off" then drained until it was empty, then repeated. Leads me to guess that I completely drained the old gas and filled the carb with new/clean/fresh gas? I then tapped the carb with a screwdriver handle. The problem remains, it will start like normal for a few seconds, then dies, and will not restart. If I let it sit an hour so so, it will again quickly start and die. My next step is to try Seafoam, and let it sit for a day or so. Anyone got any other suggestions? After that, it goes to the shop. Eddie

Is your choke thingy (enrichener) working? It's all the way to the ~left~ ? How's the air filter look? Watch the battery voltage after you start it. maybe it's dying. Check that the clutch and kick-stand , and neutral lockouts are not killing it somehow. Running a tankfull or two through it with Seafoam should fix it , if its just varnish build up on the carb jets. -- charlie

Take a look at the vacuum line to your petcock, and the petcock diaphragm.
