OK, here is what I've got......... I let my KLR sit for 6 months, no start up in 6 months. Today, I recharged the battery and it seems to be OK, the battery had some juice when I tried it, but was weak. I have it on a trickle charge. I drained the gas and filled with new gas. When I try to start it up, it runs for a few seconds (sounds like it always does at start up) then dies. Then will not start? I checked and the fuel lines have fuel. So I am thinking that it is a carb problem? My next move is to try some Seafoam. Any other suggestions?

problems at start up after sitting - help! pls
Ed:
Short of removing stuff to get the carb off, Seafoam is the next best thing. I'm trying to get my back up KLR (sat for several months) started. It runs longer with each attempt.

SeaFoam is a good idea, but first, drain the float bowl to rule out moisture contamination of the fuel due to condensation.

gas cap
I checked the oem diagrams of the gas cap assemblies for the 1999 US model, the 1999 California model, and the 2010 model. None shows those valves. There's an "oil seal" marked as a Cal part... -JWF
