new battery is fading fast.

I got a new AGM battery but something is killing it. I found some corrosion on the starter relay/solenoid and cleaned it. I give this about a 15% chance of being the problem though for now my 2004 seems to be starting. There is no draw on the battery when key is off. I hooked up a test light between the battery terminal and ground and it didn't light. One person says Stator. Another says rectifier. Evidently the stators rarely go out but I ordered a new high output one. I hope it works--the older upgrades evidently are troublesome. I gather the rectifiers go out much more commonly than the stators. Anyone got any specifics on how to test the rectifier? I must admit, I don't have a volt ohm meter; just a test light. I might just end up riding it dn to Eagle Mikes but I if I stop on the way, it will have to be on a hill. KLRs are bitches to push start solo even on level pavement. J#3

After riding some forest roads on Monday, we went back to my buddy's place to look at his fixer-upper DRZ400 with the AGM battery. Same problem as yours - almost dead. We got out the VOM meter, there's no short in his wiring. The less than 2 wk old battery (to him) was reading about 4 volts (disconnected from the bike). We charged it up and the bike runs but something is screwy. Rev the engine and the volts go down to 10 versus 12-something at idle. I'll let you know what he determines is the problem but it is interesting that the brand new AGM battery was almost dead without any use in 2 weeks. Don R100, A6F
