Ladies (do we have any Ladies on this list?) and Gentlemen, For the past couple of months (6) I have been keeping track of my mpg,it keeps dropping at a scary pace. I am lucky enough to have a service station that has no ethanol gas (regular),so that's what I have been burning,ethanol gas was peeling the aluminum on the gas cap! I have the air box L shape mod. Hi Flow air filter,drilled slide, took spark arrestor and baffles out, to compensate I felt like I had to re-jet,which I did ( dyno-jet ), running on a 16 front and 42 rear. Gear change at around 45k,max speed 70-75, no "Wild stuff". Use Sea Foam regularly(every other tank full),new chain and sprockets. iridium plug . I weight around 220 lbs ( shoe size 10 1/2 E

) . No extra weights on bike. Any suggestions to get my mpg back up ? Used to be at 49-51, now 176 miles on a full tank !!!! .Thanks [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

When was the last time you checked your valves? Things may be getting too tight in there, and need to be re-shimed.

Actually, now that you mention it, I never thought about the valves,I think last time I checked them was about 30000.00 miles ago. Darn!! Luc- After reading 'all the thread post' I would suggest you ALSO listen for the enricher movement when you push the enricher lever. If your enricher is stuck 'rich' it might just be eating a hole in your pocket. While you have the tank off checking the valves,(in a very quiet place) and get someone (or yourself) with good hearing listen to the enricher move while you move the lever. Yes Virgina, you can hear it move.... A stethoscope or large screwdriver touching the carb case with your thumb as a conduit into your ear also works well. revmaaatin.

I,m not sure I understand the format of this forum, but here goes. Someone please let me know if this post, if not I assume it's dead. I bought my 07 KLR new in 07. My fuel mileage, checked after 1000 miles was 49 MPG. There was a lean surge at 45 to 60 MPH. I opened the pilot screw and did the 25 cent mod. The fuel mileage jumped to 55 MPG, with a remarkable improvement in performance. So, IMO, lean is not always best as far as fuel economy goes. Through the years I have experimented with different size sprockets, front and rear. As low as a 14/46 and as high as a 16/43. At 55 mph the MPG's stayed the same, no matter what size sprocket I used.. With the 14/46 I did not care to do more than 55 to 60 mph for long periods. So, I had a spare head and jug. I sent it to M-Tech last year for the 705 kit, porting, bigger valves and so on. It's another bike now. Don't do this for improvement for ordinary off road use. It's not worth it. Use sprockets. If you pound the tarmac as I do to destinations that require some speed for the long run and you need to do 80 mph and still pass cars in a reasonable time, modify. Oh yea, back to fuel mileage. With all the changes, I have found my mileage the same as before. I have a Dyno Jet kit, made 8 changes,(PITA) 55 mpg's now again, I can crack the throttle back and dump the tank if I want to, but if I run reasonably, I do the same as before. John, thanks for responding, but... I need pix of the inside of the clutch cover itself. The clutch release lever's stem goes through that hole in the top of the cover, then nests in a casting in the inside wall of the cover. I have studied your pix though, so I'm learning. I don't know what the assembly with the omega spring does, but I don't think it's implicated in the connection between the clutch release lever shaft and its connection to the notch in the clutch rod, which comes out of the center of the clutch. The bike runs good, except for a couples of hickups and lurches once in a while and slow throttle response .
