Dunno about compatibility, and yes I would agree that a replacement carb
(if properly adjusted) would cure the ills, but that is an expensive fix
for something that could most likely be fixed for free.
The carbs on our bikes are an amazingly simple machine faking us into
believing they are doing an amazingly complicated task.
I'm just stubborn enough to want to learn the carb and find out what is
wrong. It has to be something simple. If it worked before you took it
apart (and before the diaphragm failed), then logic says it has to work
if you get everything back.
If it won't start, then it is the pilot circuit. Get the info for the
carb. Find out how many turns out on the air or fuel screw (I don't know
this carb) and float settings, return them to stock so you have a
starting point.
Do you smell fuel from the exhaust? If so, it is rich. No smell? Too
lean. Is the carb even getting fuel?

My last KLR, an 08' was easily capable of heating my clothing. I have been out of the KLR game for two years riding a KTM, DRZ, and DL1000, but I am going back. I am looking at an 07, well farkled, but will a stator upgrade heat my clothes?__.
After_,_._33 years of riding everything but a KLR, I gotta say there is no better machine for those who just want to ride without all the wheelies and insane speeds.__
BTW, I have gotten 3 speeding tickets since I stopped riding a KLR. lol Immmmm bacccckkkk!

Yeah, the DL1000 can get you into trouble very easily.
Last Sunday, 405 Freeway Northbound by LAX airport. Belly full of Fish n Chips and "Shoot to Thrill" on my headphones, just cruisin' along... at 95MPH. I have to use the throttle lock to keep me out of the supra-legal speed range. It just "wants" to go fast.

The 07 and earlier alternator is capable of 192 watts, which means there is
about 70 watts free to power electrical equipment. The conventional wisdom
has always been that this is enough for some heated clothing or high-powered
lighting, but not both. I imagine you could stretch that a bit with Led
lighting, and maybe a bit more with HID lighting, which draws less than a
conventional headlight. I have always been able to power a heated Aerostich
liner with my 98, but have not tried to do more than that, like heated
handgrips or gloves.
The last I heard, the Electrex/Electrosport stators had pretty consistently
failed to live up to their promise; that is to say, there is a lot of info
out there about unsuccessful, even disastrous experiences, and very little
to be heard from satisfied customers. That does not mean there are not some
of those out there, happily cranking out extra watts, but I would like to
hear more success stories before shelling out a few hundred bucks.

high output stator?
My 07 KLR liked a Moose Racing higher output stator. Stock stator did not like my Gerbing jacket liner(77 watts). I have bright Trailtech Equinox aux led lights and a Garmin 60csx as my electric add-on loads. Mark in Nevada.
