The Carrillo kit requires no machining versus how much does it cost to bore and hone a klr barrel to fit a 685...and that is if the machine shop gets it right! J#3

drain hole for sparkplug?

I thought I read that there is a drain hole just below the coolant hose on the right side of the engine that allows water to drain out of the spark plug area. See photo linked below for what I'm talking about. If that's what this is, how do you unplug it? I'd get a piece of stiff wire and roto-rooter it clear. Safety wire, slender coat hanger wire or even a large paperclip straightened out should do. Got some brake cleaner? Spray a bit of that in the hole to loosen the crud then try compressed air again. eddie

I'm surprised that the hole is plugged up with that "show room" quality engine. I'd use the wire first to make sure I can get through there. If you break the log jam, look at the wire: wire oily = brake cleaner is the next step; wire clean = compressed air will blow the rocks out. If you can't push the wire through the hole, try a bigger wire (Jaws). Hate to think that casting process didn't provide an access hole. Don R100, A6F (x2)
