Hurricanes blow.
We got 1 good gust and over she went.
broke the luggage rack, choke lever holder, and bent the OEM handlebars.
I knew I shoulda tied her to a tree or something.
Should I try to straighten them? or just get new ones.
They want a lot for a new OEM handlebar.
The $70 pro-taper looks nice, but I'd like to get something cheaper.
No steel bars , Fred?
Anybody get a replacement handlebar they can recommend?
There are the Moose, MSR steel, Fly Racing, etc. substitutes.
I think I need 7/8" diameter but after that I don't know.
theres this but which one fits the KLR? The one list as "KX high High bend" in the application chart?

Charlie,
Most all dirtbike type handlebars are going to be straighter and lower than what comes on the KLR. The closest bend to the KLR that I know of is the ProTaper SE ATV mid bend and the Renthal Desert/Vintage bend. These are 7/8 aluminum bars and are well made. You will need to drill one small hole for a locating pin in the left switch to fit any aftermarket handlebar. Steel handlebars are much cheaper ($15-$20) but they are also not as strong and will vibrate more than the aluminum handlebars.
You can straighten your bent steel handlebars if you are careful and the bars are not bent so bad as to have it s paint cracked. Bending steel handlebars will make them softer and they will be more prone to bending again the next time.
I sell Rox bar risers that will allow you to rotate any 7/8 or 1 1/8 handlebars forward or reward to fit your needs. So you could use just about any handlebars that has the right sweep for you and then adjust the height with the Rox Risers.

If you have the original grips on your handlebars, you will destroy the left grip getting it off, so yes you will need new grips.

Pro Taper 'Raptor" is VERY much like the OEM handlebars. I am replacing the
handlebars on my Super Tenere with the Raptors.

My bike has an MSN 7/8" alloy bar. It's a little lower than stock and is called the terminator or Dominator or something. I paid $20 for it nine years ago when other alloy bars were going for $60. It has survived a lot more crashes than the stockers ever did.

Hey all
taking it apart for the 5th time I found, the tiny little switch's cover and contact can adjusted about 1/8th of an inch.
(while I have worked on thousands of small switchs (on the job) and never seen such a thing.
By it being out of place, it will start in nuetral only, IF, you do not pull in the clutch, but will not start at all if you have it in gear.
Glad I learned it in the Garrage and not after a fall etc. (if at all) in the field.
