chain guide/slider useful?

Is it worth adding a chain guide and/or slider? I ordered at set here (http://www.hotfootmoto.com/Kawasaki_Sliders.html) but they sent the wrong color and so returned it. In any case, the production quality and finish on these parts was truly awful, so I haven't reordered. Also saw the Top Gun Chain Master (described in detail at http://www.topgunmotorcycles.com/chainmaster/chainmaster.html) which Elden considers one of the absolute necessities on the KLR. On the other hand, he designed it. Anybody have experience with these? Dave

fan switch mod

Installed a single pole double throw switch per the wiring diagram on the Watt-man site.: http://members.cox.net/watt-man/FanOverrideSchematic.JPG It works! The one caveat is the positive supply to the fan relay is apparently unswitched because the circuit works with the key off. What happens is that the fan relay doesn't get grounded until the thermal switch in the radiator closes or with this switch installed you can ground the relay manually and voila! fan comes on. I already like it. If you flip the fan on early it doesn't take near as long for it to cool the motor off. If you are putting around in the dirt at slow speeds or in stop and go traffic you can turn the fan on before the bike has gotten really hot. I mounted the switch in the plastic cover just in back of the gauge cluster, I already had mounted the switch for the heated grips there and there was room for another switch. I had to be careful and measure the wires twice and cut once and be sure there was enough slack for the bars to turn lock to lock. I used 12-14 gauge spade connectors so the wiring harness could remain unchopped and be put back to stock if desired. I crimped them and soldered them. chain guide/slider useful?

I just finished my first 20 miles with Chain Master. Seems like I get less chain lash on deceleration, smoother power transfer generally. It must be doing SOMETHING: I can see the tracks of the chain on the roller. The bolt that holds the plate and the subframe joint is a 10.9, whereas the Eagle Mike bolt it replaced (and is too short to use with the CM) is a 12.9. The Chain Master guy says Eldon used the stock subframe bolts with no problem, so he figures 10.9 is strong enough. Any opinions on that? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
