oil level...

The change in specification is bizarre. They didn't change the engine from 2009 to 2010. From page 88 of my 2009 KLR650 manual, "Engine oil capacity: 2.2L (2.3 US qt) when filter is not removed. 2.5L (2.6 US qt) when filter is removed." The oil capacity on the engine case is cast as 2.5L. (curious what a 2010 right side case has on it). When I change the oil and filter, I add 2.5 liters after having let it drain until it quits dripping and I'vce leaned the bike a bit left and right. When I run the bike for 5 min. or so afterward, shut down and wait 3 or 4 minutes for rundown, the oil level is at/above the top line. Half a liter of oil is 20% difference. That's 20% less for heat transfer and lubrication duties. If your bike uses any oil, it could quickly be low enough for concern. Your mileage may vary, as they say. But, I have to agree with the dot net guys. eddie

filter and 2.0L if I do change the filter. That puts my oil level near the top mark in the engine case sight glass.

needs 2.5L of oil which would put the engine oil level over the top of the sight glass and they seem to think a KLR run at 1.9L/2.0L levels is doomed to engine problems.
