The black chunks are probably pieces of grommets or similar parts and I didn't get a chance to photograph a piece of cast iron, about a 3/8" curve that might have been part of a gear hub and a hooked peice of wire that might have been a part of a spring. It's been running okay w/ them laying in the bottom of the engine so I'm thinking/hoping it will continue to do so. I'll let you know after I test ride it. Some days my first trip looks very far away:) From: Jeff Khoury To: Rick B Cc: DSN KLR650 DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Sunday, July 24, 2011 12:06 AM Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Running Hot WTF is all that brown stuff? Gasket sealer?

First I had a problem with the vacuum line collapsing and I fixed that, but in the back of my mind I kept thinking there must be a reason for the bike getting hot enough to cause the line to collaspe. Well this morning I finally got a chance to load up the bike and take it for a test run up the pass and sure enough w/ the bike fully loaded for the first time it overheated. I took it back home and pulled out the repair book and started going down the troubleshooting list for overheating item by item until I got to the clogged crankcase strainer. I posted a couple of pictures in the photos section so you can see what I found. I was amazed that it could run at all. I'm not a mechanic so I've got about 5 hours into it already and will have about another 2 hours tomorrow but I think I've got the problem solved. I bought the bike used and it has had a running hot problem for me from day one. It's got 25,000 miles on it, only a few hundred of that are mine. I'm thinking it's been limping along like this the whole time. I'm looking forward to seeing it perform at it's full capablity:) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
